Women Will Finally Be Allowed To Drive In Saudi Arabia

According to the New York Times, Women living in Saudi Arabia will finally be allowed to drive in June 2018. We don't understand why women in Saudi Arabia were not allowed to drive before now but we do know that the wives and daughters of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of GOD be upon him) who also lived in Saudi Arabia, rode their own camels and horses and the horse and camel were the 'automobiles' of that period.

Muslim reported from Shuraih ibn Hani’ that the wife of the Prophet (SAW) ‘Aisha (May GOD be pleased with her) rode a camel, and it was somewhat defiant, so she kept on beating it, and the Messenger of ALLAH  (blessings and peace be upon him) said to her,

“Adhere to gentleness.”

According to another hadith, it was reported that the Prophet (Peace and blessings of GOD be upon him) said:

"The best women among the camel riders are the righteous women of the Quraysh." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Automobile companies in the Middle east will undoubtedly benefit from this, and some of them like Ford Middle East, pictured above and Volkswagen Middle East, pictured below have shared messages on Twitter in support of this new development in Saudi Arabia.
